Briton Mansell wins first DP World Tour title in Singapore Classic

Richard Mansell won the Singapore Classic Sunday with a birdie on the final hole. This was his first DP World Tour win on his 104th try. He beat Keita Nagajima by just one stroke.

The Englishman Mansell shot a six-under-66 in the final round of the tournament to finish 16 under in a tight competition. Adrien Saddier from France and England's Tom McKibbin finished two strokes back to share third place.

When asked about the long wait for his title, Mansell responded with emotion: "God I wish it came earlier."

It's a great feeling. It makes all those near misses, and the times I got ahead of myself before in the past, just a little more worth it.

The tournament was reduced from 72 to 54 holes after a Thursday washout.

Erickson shot two birdies in the third round, but a bogey dropped him to joint sixth place. Japan's Nakajima had a flawless performance with seven birds to finish at 15 under par.

Mansell, 29 years old, hit five consecutive birdies before a bogey at the 10th hole. He offset this with another birdie at the 13th. He was tied with Nakajima at the 18th, and he ended with a two-putt from over 100 feet.

Mansell's wife Ellie, who was in tears at the time of his win, said: "So many people believed in me and supported me when I stopped working on it myself."

"I would tell people who are interested in pursuing this career that the moment of fulfillment is worth the effort.

"So, stick with it and you will be rewarded someday like I am."

Mansell will take home nearly 400,000 euro ($432,560). ($1 = 0.9247 euros) (Reporting by Chiranjit Ojha in Bengaluru; editing by Clare Fallon)
