Fire at Alberta gas metering station prompts short-term highway closure

A fire that prompted short-lived closure of a significant highway near Edson town, Canada, on Monday involved a gas metering station, said Yellowhead County in northern Alberta

There was no hazard to the nearby neighborhoods, Alberta. Wildfire stated, including that the fire was estimated to be three hectares in size.

The Royal Canadian Installed Authorities (RCMP) reported that travel on Highway 16 was closed due to the lawn fire. Nevertheless, in an update on Monday afternoon, RCMP validated that the eastbound lanes were resumed for motorists.

There has been no direct damage reported with neighboring pipelines. Yellowhead County is on scene and working with FortisAlberta, TransMountain Pipeline, Atco Gas, AltaLink, Alberta Forestry and the RCMP, the county included.

It is still unclear whose metering station was associated with the fire, The Canadian Press reported, mentioning Yellowhead County representative Stefan Felsing.
