Israel claims to have foiled an Iranian attack on the Baku-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline

Israel announced on Monday that it had discovered an 'Iranian network' which planned to attack a crude oil pipeline from Azerbaijan into the Mediterranean, as well as Israeli and Jewish targets in Azerbaijan.

Mossad, Shin Bet and other intelligence agencies released a joint press release stating that a plan to attack the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan Pipeline through Georgia into Turkey by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran was foiled several weeks ago.

The agencies said that the cell also planned to attack 'Jewish and Israeli Targets in Azerbaijan such as the Israeli Embassy and a Synagogue in Baku as well as leaders in the Jewish Community in Azerbaijan.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry did not respond immediately to a comment request.

Azerbaijani officials arrested members of the cell who were in possession explosive drones and fragmentation charge.

The statement stated that the cell used various methods to collect intelligence, including physical surveillance, photography and direct orders from their Iranian handlers.

This exposure, along with strenuous intelligence investigations and?operational activity on the ground, has led to the discovery of a?secret?terrorist?network that was established within the IRGC.

The cell's leader was reportedly?Rahman Moqadam who served as head of the IRGC Intelligence Special Operations Division or?Unit 4000.

Moqadam died 'last month in Israeli air strikes, as part of the air war that Israel and the United States have waged against Iran since February 28. (Reporting and editing by Steven Scheer)
