Orlen and Equinor develop carbon capture projects

On Monday, Orlen in Poland and Equinor in Norway signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines their plans to develop carbon capture and storage projects.

Irene Rummelhoff, Executive Vice President of Equinor and Wieslaw Pruga, Orlen Management Board member responsible for upstream, signed the documents.

Orlen announced in a press release that under the memorandum Orlen will work with Equinor to identify possible carbon dioxide storage locations in Poland. This includes both the onshore areas as well as the Polish sector of Baltic Sea.

Rummelhoff said at a Warsaw news briefing that "we hope we can develop together a CCS Value Chain". He added, "We think there are geological forms suitable for carbon dioxide storing, and we eagerly anticipate Polish regulations on CCS Storage."
