Kazakhstan's daily oil production reached a record high in March according to industry sources

Kazakhstan's oil production has reached a new record this month, thanks to the expansion of oilfields. This is a further increase over OPEC+ production quotas.

Saudi Arabia and Russia, the two leaders of OPEC+, have pressed for a reduction in output after repeatedly exceeding their quotas.

It is difficult for the government to convince U.S. major oil companies such as Exxon Mobil and Chevron to reduce production from Kazakhstan's largest fields, after these companies invested tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in expanding their projects.

After a series of difficult discussions about OPEC+ compliance, the Energy Minister of the State has resigned.

Sources said that oil and gas condensate produced in Kazakhstan reached 4.6 millions metric tons between March 1-16 or 2,16 million barrels daily (bpd). This compares to an average of 2.12 million barrels per day (bpd) in February.

Kazakhstan's OPEC+ quota does not limit condensate output, but crude oil production is supposed to be at 1.468 millions bpd.

Calculations based on data provided by sources showed that Kazakhstan produced 1,86 million bpd in average between March 1-16. This was almost 400,000 bpd more than its OPEC+ quota.

OPEC data last week showed that output was above OPEC+ quotas for January and February, at 1.767 and 1.57 millions bpd.

The state promised to compensate by making additional cuts. OPEC+ released a new schedule on Thursday for seven members including Russia, Kazakhstan and Iraq to further cut oil production to compensate for pumping over agreed levels.

OPEC+ source told us that the record Kazakh production had angered key members, and contributed to their decision to move forward with a plan this month to increase output starting in April.

Kazakhstan's March exports of oil remain high. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium export route continues unabated. The CPC pipeline exports have been set to 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) for April in accordance with the March preliminary plan. David Goodman is responsible for reporting and editing.
