Boeing ramps up production of the Patriot as demand for Seekers soars

Boeing announced on Wednesday that it was ramping up production of PAC-3 seeker components, which are critical parts used in Patriot missile interceptors to meet the demand surge for the system.

By the end of this year, the company expects to surpass its record for annual production by more than 20%.

Boeing's shortage of critical components has stalled the United States plan to increase production of Patriot missiles in Japanese factories.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a Japanese company that manufactures PAC-3s under license for Lockheed Martin's defence contractor Lockheed Martin each year, plans to expand this number from 30 to 60.

It is impossible to expand without additional supplies of missile seekers. These are essential in guiding the final stages of flight.

Boeing expanded its Seeker factory in the United States last year to increase production of 30%. However, the new lines will not be operational before 2027.

The Patriot missile defence systems have been in demand for many years. They are used in Ukraine against Russian attacks, and also in the Middle East to combat the Iranian threat. Reporting from Bengaluru by Pratyush Thakhur; editing by Maju Sam
