Ukraine harvests initially 48,300 T of 2024 grain crop, ministry states

Farmers in 6 Ukrainian central and southern areas have started the 2024 grain harvest, threshing the first 48,300 metric tons, the agriculture ministry said on Friday.

The harvest began around two weeks earlier than typical due to hot weather.

The ministry stated farmers had actually threshed 39,900 tons of barley with the typical yield of 2.98 loads per hectare and 7,300 heaps of peas with a yield of 2.2 heaps per hectare.

Farmers also gathered 1,100 tons of wheat with a yield of 2.2 loads per hectare.

Earlier this month, the ministry increased its forecast for the 2024 grain harvest to 56 million loads from a previous quote of 52.4 million. Together with oilseed the crop might overall 77 million lots.

The harvest could consist of 21 million lots of wheat, 28.5 million tons of corn and 5 million tons of barley.

The country collected about 81 million tons of grain and oilseeds in 2023, the federal government has stated.
