Acciona and RMC build Ravenna breakwater to LNG terminal for 216 million euro

Acciona announced on Tuesday that it and Italy's RMC would build a breakwater for the new LNG terminal off the port in Ravenna. The contract is worth 216 millions euros ($230million).

The terminal will be managed by Italy’s gas grid operator Snam and is expected to be completed in the first quarter next year.

LNG imports, which arrive via ships, are regasified in terminals and then transported by pipeline to customers domestically, have now become a major supply source, accounting for around a quarter of Italy's gas consumption.

Ravenna’s work is a vertical concrete dock with a length and width of 880 meters.

The project is located in northern Adriatic Sea 8.5 km off the coast of Punta marina, south of Ravenna, and will take 24 months to complete.

The North Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority (the client) is covered by the funds provided by the Italian state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

Acciona's Italian business, headed by Luigi Patimo provides water treatment and supply services to over two million people across 10 Italian regions.

The country has also undertaken major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Rome Fiumicino Airport and the high-speed rail link between Bologna and Milan. Reporting by Francesca Landini, Editing by Keith Weir.
