Baltic index little bit changed as gains in panamax offsets capesize losses

The Baltic Exchange's primary sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk products, was bit altered on Monday as gains in the panamax vessels countered weakness in the capesize vessel section.

* The total index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, got 2 points, or 0.1%, to 1,883.

* The capesize index lost 13 points, or 0.43%, to 2,985.

* On the other hand, the panamax index increased 19 points, or about 1.1%, to 1,769, its highest level given that May 28.

* Typical daily earnings for capesize vessels, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes of iron ore and coal, among others, decreased $108 to $24,759.

* Typical daily profits for panamax vessels, which typically carry about 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain cargo, inched up $167 to $15,919.

* Amongst smaller vessels, the supramax index snapped an eighteen-session losing streak, rising 3 points or 0.24%, to 1,257.
