Libya wards off smuggling attempt of 100 kg of gold, 1.5 mln euros

Libya's Internal Security Firm said on Saturday it had warded off an attempt to smuggle 100 kg (220 pound) of gold and 1.5 million euros at Misrata international airport throughout a security check of an global flight.

The firm said on its validated Facebook page that the gold bars were found in three suitcases while the cash was in one suitcase.

The suitcases were found throughout the security examination procedure of a flight to Turkey, stated the firm.

A variety of images published by the agency revealing the seized suitcases consisting of gold bars and packages of euro banknotes.

Misrata is a port city about 200 km (125 miles) east of the capital Tripoli.

The company included that those responsible for these suitcases were arrested.

In May, the Tripoli-based chief law officer stated it ordered the arrest of director general of customs and other officials at Misrata global airport over conspiring to smuggle almost 26,000 kg of gold.
