Sources say that Indian refiners have cut their spot tenders due to the rebound in Russian oil shipments.

Sources from the company said that Indian refiners would issue fewer tenders to purchase crude oil on the spot market over the next few months as Russian supplies recover after sanctions-related disruptions.

Before this year, Indian refiners stopped almost completely issuing spot tenders as they went hog wild on Russian oil which was sold at a discounted price since Western nations had stopped purchasing it and imposed sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In January, however, the U.S. Treasury tightened up its sanctions against Moscow's energy industry, placing them on 183 vessels which had been transporting Russian oil.

In their rush to replace Russian supplies, Indian Oil Corp. and Bharat Petroleum Corp., both state-owned companies, resorted to the spot markets.

However, three sources from Indian refiners said that their companies would be issuing fewer spot bids because traders are again offering Russian oil transported on non-sanctioned tanks.

The sources requested not to be identified as they weren't authorised to talk to journalists.

Imports of Russian crude oil to India, the world's largest oil consumer, returned to their pre-declined levels in March after a three-month decline. Cargo deliveries resumed while some supplies were diverted away from Turkey.
