Rolls-Royce exploring technology for narrow-body jet market

RollsRoyce is developing a smaller sized version of its Ultrafan engine demonstrator targeted at exploring technology for the next generation of narrowbody jets, CEO Tufan Erginbilgic stated on Tuesday.

We are now progressing towards a demonstrator on what I. call small engines, ie narrow-body, Erginbilgic informed reporters. at the Farnborough Airshow, adding the company was talking to. airplane producers about the technology effort.

A year earlier, Erginbilgic informed press reporters at the equivalent. Paris Airshow that Rolls did not rule out future collaborations in. the narrow-body market, however had a sufficient runway for growth. in its big engine organization to live without it.

Tuesday's remarks recommend a further step towards returning. to the busiest part of the marketplace as planemakers sketch out. ideas for the next generation of aircrafts in the 2030s, though. Erginbilgic worried its wide-body engines were offering well.

Rolls-Royce remained in an alliance from 1983 to 2011 with Pratt. & & Whitney on engines for Airbus A320 jets. However it pulled out for. the existing generation of narrow-bodies, whose sales have. skyrocketed.

Competing GE Aerospace is running wind-tunnel and other tests on. its increase open-fan innovation for future narrow-body airplanes,. promising fuel savings of about 20% from 2035 onwards.
