China to adjust drone export control procedures from Sept. 1

China's commerce ministry said on Wednesday it will adjust export control steps for drones, reliable from Sept. 1.

The ministry said China will eliminate short-term control of specific consumer-grade drones, and prohibit the export of all civilian drones not under control for use in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, terrorist activities or military functions.

The modification would assist secure the security and stability of worldwide commercial and supply chains, the ministry said in a separate declaration.

In 2015, China revealed export controls on some drones and drone-related devices, saying it wanted to protect nationwide security and interests in the middle of intensifying stress with the United States over access to the innovation.

In a statement last July, the ministry said it chose to properly broaden the drone export control, without targeting any particular country and area.
