Singapore Airlines executive says that the demand for flights to China is increasing.

Singapore Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin stated on Friday that the airline has seen an increase in passengers traveling to China over the past few months. However, outbound travel is still below pre-pandemic numbers.

Lee, at a press conference following the announcement of the annual results, said: "We've seen a significant increase in inbound travel to China over the past six months."

He said that the load factors (or the share of seats on flights) on the carrier's China flight have improved from the 70% range to within the 80 range.

Asia's recovery from the pandemic has been slowed down in some places because China, the second largest economy on the planet, is slower to return to international flights than the rest.

He said that the full-service airline's capacity to China has recovered largely to its pre-pandemic level, but Scoot, the low-cost carrier, is still flying about 80% as much as it did before COVID.

Singapore Airlines reported record net profits on Thursday, thanks to a one-time gain from the merger of Vistara, its Indian carrier, and Air India. However, lower air fares due to increased competition reduced operating profit. (Reporting and editing by Christian Schmollinger; Lisa Barrington is the reporter)
