Saudi carrier Flyadeal will start flights to Syria in the near future, CEO of the company says

Flyadeal, a Saudi low-cost carrier, could begin flying to Syria in July, according to CEO Steven Greenway. The airline will join a few other foreign carriers that have begun or resumed flights to Syria, as sanctions are being eased.

Greenway said in Manila that he had received approvals to fly to Syria last week. "We're preparing to launch this hopefully in July," he told reporters as he announced the deal to lease two planes from Philippine budget carrier Cebu Pacific.

Many airlines left Syria during the 14-year civil conflict. After rebels overthrew former president Bashar al Assad in December 2024 international flights were also suspended for a time. However, services are now offered by Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines, as well as Syrian airlines.

FlyDubai, based in the United Arab Emirates, has announced that it will resume its services as of June.

Last week, the administration of U.S. president Donald Trump issued orders that effectively lifted sanctions against Syria. Trump claimed he had done so at the request of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince.
