IndiGo, India's IndiGo adds 10 new international destinations

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, announced on Friday that the airline will expand its business class service overseas and add 10 new international destinations this year. This will increase competition with Air India.

IndiGo is making a new push to capture the premium international travel market, which has been dominated for years by Tata's Air India.

DGCA data shows IndiGo, which controls nearly 60% of India’s domestic market, flew 1.8 millions international passengers during the quarter October-December, only slightly behind Air India, its budget unit, and their combined 2 million.

Pieter Elbers, CEO of the company, said this at a Friday event in Delhi, without mentioning Indian departure points.

Later this year, the airline plans to expand their long-haul network with new destinations, including London, Copenhagen and Athens as well as Southeast Asian cities and countries like Hanoi and Cambodia.

IndiGo announced earlier this year that it would increase its international seat capacity, and expand the fleet to 600 aircraft before fiscal 2030. The company has also signed an agreement with Bengaluru International Airport for the development of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), infrastructure to support its growth.
