In 2025, despite Trump's attacks on Europe, Americans flock to France

The French Tourism Ministry announced on Thursday that despite the growing hostility between the U.S. government of Donald Trump and the French government, Americans will flock to France 'in 2025. U.S. visitors are expected to increase by 17% over the previous year.

The increase in U.S. visitors is also noteworthy, as it occurred despite the weaker dollar. In 2025, the greenback will fall by more than 10% against euro after years of an extremely favorable exchange rate for Americans traveling to the eurozone.

In 2025, more than 5 million Americans visited France, part of a record-breaking 102 million tourists, according to Tourism Minister Serge Papin. 100 million foreigners visited Paris in 2024 when the Olympics were held.

He said that tourists would spend 9% more?in 2025, or 77.5 billion euro ($91.34billion) on upmarket hotels.

"France is an excellent tourist destination." "Let's be proud and, most importantly, let's stay that way," said?Papin. "France continues?to attract, entice and make the world dream," said Papin.

The increase in U.S. tourism suggests that many Americans are not surprised by Trump's worsening relationship with Europe.

Since assuming office, Trump's team has escalated tensions with the EU over trade, threatened to annexe Greenland, clashed against European governments regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and criticised EU?digital regulations.

The U.S. surge in visitors is still to be seen.

The European Travel Commission announced on Wednesday that it expects U.S. visitors to the continent will drop in 2026. This would be the first sign of a slowdown after the boom in American travel in Europe following the pandemic, which was driven by the strong U.S. Dollar and the economic'resilience' in North America.

The commission stated that it expects the decline in U.S. tourists to be offset by an increase in Chinese and Indian visitors who will push up international arrivals by 6.2% by 2026.

The French tourism ministry reported that early 2026 flight bookings from Mexico and China were encouraging but did not provide comparable U.S. numbers. $1 = 0.8485 euros (Reporting and editing by Clarence Fernandez; Additional reporting and editing by Corina Plucinska, Joanna Plucinska, Corina Poins; Inti Landauro)
