South Korea's MFG bids for 140,000 t corn, traders claim

The Major Feedmill Group of South Korea (MFG) issued a tender for the purchase of up to 140.000 metric tons animal feed corn. This was announced by European traders on Thursday.

The deadline to submit price offers for the tender is also on Thursday, February 27.

In May and June, corn in quantities ranging from 55,000-70,000 tons is expected to arrive in South Korea.

Shipping of one consignment to arrive in South Korea on May 31 was requested between April 27 and 16 if it came from the U.S. Pacific Northwest Coast, between April 7-26 from the U.S. Gulf coast, April 2-21 if it came from South America or between April 12-May 1, if coming from South Africa.

The second consignment, due to arrive in South Korea on June 7, was requested between May 4 and 23 if it came from the U.S. Pacific Northwest Coast, between April 14 and May 3 if it came from the U.S. Gulf coast, between 9-28 if it came from South America and between April 19 and May 8 if coming from South Africa.

The tender is seeking price offers both in terms of outright cost per ton and freight included (c&f), or at a higher premium than the Chicago corn contract for May 2025.

Nonghyup Feed Inc. (NOFI), a South Korean feedmaker, has also released an international tender for the purchase of up to 138,000 tonnes of feed corn. The tender will close on Tuesday. Some Asian buyers have made corn purchases in anticipation of possible market volatility following Thursday's release of new U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates of corn sowings.
