Roofing collapses at Delhi airport, one dead, departures cancelled

A roofing system collapsed under heavy rains and winds at the primary airport in India's capital New Delhi on Friday, eliminating someone and causing authorities to cancel flights from one terminal, officials and media said.

A part of the canopy at the departures location of Delhi airport's terminal 1 collapsed at 5 a.m. (2330 GMT), a statement from the airport published on the social networks website X stated.

There are injuries reported and emergency workers are working to provide all essential help and medical help to those affected, the declaration stated.

News channels reported that three people were hurt and someone was caught under the collapsed roofing system.

All departures from the terminal of affordable providers IndiGo and SpiceJet were cancelled until 2 p.m. (0830 GMT), the statement stated.

Visuals from media showed water putting from the collapsed roofing and a taxi stuck under a pillar, even as rain continued to shower down in the location, leading to flooded roads and traffic jams.

India's aviation minister said he was monitoring the circumstance which first responders were working at the site.
