Trump signals support for US dockworkers in stalled labor talks

U.S. Presidentelect Donald Trump on Thursday signified support for some 45,000 union dockworkers on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, whose labor talks are at a deadlock over the polarizing concern of port automation.

The amount of money saved is nowhere near the distress, hurt, and harm it triggers for American Workers, in this case, our Longshoremen, Trump stated in a post of Truth Social after a. meeting with Harold Daggett, who leads the International. Longshoremen's Association union that represents the port. employees.

The ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). company group are dealing with a Jan. 15 deadline to finalize talks,. which have stalled over cargo-handling automation. That deadline. comes just five days before Trump's inauguration.

The ILA emphatically opposes automation, stating it eliminates jobs.

The 2 sides accepted end a three-day strike on Oct. 3. after the union won a 62% wage trek over six years with. substantial involvement by the White Home and other authorities. from President Joe Biden's administration.

Companies, a number of whom are from overseas, have been booking. record earnings, Trump said on Thursday.

I 'd rather these foreign companies invest it on the fantastic. males and females on our docks, than equipment, which is pricey,. and which will constantly have to be changed, Trump said.

USMX did not right away react to a request for remark.
