Airbus talks to Malaysian Airlines about its A220 planes

According to Bernama, the state news agency, Airbus has been in talks with Malaysian airlines about its A220 plane, according to a senior company executive.

Anand Stanley is the Asia-Pacific President of Airbus and he said that the A220 has potential in Malaysia where 150 other Airbus commercial planes are currently operating. The agency also said it expects to receive 400 more orders for delivery in the future.

Stanley was quoted as saying, "We see Malaysians have a large potential for demand." We are only in the early stages of discussions, but I can't comment on a timeline, we hope to see the A220 arrive in Malaysia.

Stanley said that the Southeast Asian country is Airbus' third-largest customer in Asia-Pacific after China and India.

AirAsia, the budget airline, was a big customer of Airbus' A320 and A330 aircraft, while Malaysia Airlines operated a fleet of widebody Airbus jets.

However, the report did not mention which airlines Airbus is in discussions with.

Malaysia Airlines parent company, Malaysia Aviation Group, announced last month that it expects to receive 20 new Airbus A330neo jets between 2028 and 2028. Two of these jets are already in service with eight more due this year.

Airbus announced this month that its deliveries for the year were 192 aircraft. This is a 5% decrease from 2024. The company also confirmed its target of 820 deliveries commercial for the year, an increase of 7% despite delays with engines. (Reporting and editing by Clarence Fernandez; Danial Azhar)
