Enbridge pulls personnel from overseas platforms as Storm Francine advances

Energy pipeline operator Enbridge has pulled employees from a number of offshore U.S. Gulf of Mexico platforms, the business told consumers, as Hurricane Francine advanced towards a landfall in Louisiana.

Francine has shut in oil and gas production at overseas platforms operated by Chevron, Exxon Mobil and Shell. The very first official measure of the storm's effect on U.S. energy production will be launched later on Tuesday by U.S. regulator the Bureau of Security and Environmental Enforcement.

Enbridge, which handles an extensive network of overseas pipelines funneling oil and gas to onshore plants, evacuated staff from 3 offshore platforms. Operations are continuing at each using remote operators, it said in notifications to consumers.

Personnel were eliminated from South Marsh Island 76, Ship Shoal 207 and 332 platforms, the consumer notices said. South Marsh Island 76 connects a 1 billion cubic feet daily natural gas offshore pipeline.

The Manta Ray Gas Collecting system declared force majeure at its Green Canyon 158 Brutus invoice point and stopped receiving gas, Enbridge informed consumers.

Force majeure is a provision that enables a contract to be suspended due to unforeseen events. The invoice point would be returned to service once the company can replace a. malfunctioning valve, Enbridge stated.
