A minimum of 5 feared dead in Bosnian floods, authorities says

Downpour, flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc in main and southern Bosnia on Friday, with a minimum of five individuals feared dead, a civil defence authorities said.

The municipality of Jablanica, where the presumed deaths were reported, was totally cut off as flash floods destroyed roadways and train lines. The location has to do with 70 km (43 miles). southwest of the capital Sarajevo.

According to unofficial info, 5 people lost their. lives in floods, said Majda Kovac, a spokeswoman for the civil. security workplace of the Bosniak-Croat federation.

Also on Friday, Bosnia's tripartite presidency agreed to. order military help for the larger Jablanica location.

Engineering and rescue systems and a helicopter ... were. urgently engaged to supply immediate assistance to civil. authorities, it said in a statement.

Bosnia's Defence Minister Zukan Helez said local authorities. in the Jablanica area had requested aid from the air force to. leave a kid.

Kovac stated all roadways resulting in Jablanica were blocked,. including that authorities had begun evacuations in the. municipalities affected by the flooding, consisting of 17 individuals at. a mental health hospital.

In Kiseljak, some 20 km west of Sarajevo, the waters had. mainly declined by midday on Friday, leaving individuals to clean up. mud and particles and evaluate the damage.

In neighbouring Croatia, authorities also provided a serious. weather warning for the Adriatic coast and central areas of. the country. Montenegro and Serbia issued comparable warnings.
