British maritime agencies report an attack off Yemen's coastline

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said that two unknown projectiles struck a merchant ship about 70 nautical miles north of Yemen's Saleef port, UKMTO reported on Monday.

In an advisory note, UKMTO stated that damage control is underway. A third explosion occurred near the vessel but no one was injured.

Since last November, Houthi militants with an Iranian affiliation have attacked international shipping near Yemen in solidarity with Palestinians fighting alongside Israel and Hamas.

Ambrey, a British security company, said that a drone also struck a merchant ship about 50 nautical miles to the west of Yemen’s Hodeidah, but no injuries or damages were reported.

Ambrey stated that at the time of the incident, Ambrey's vessel was less than 3 nautical miles from the last known location of another vessel that had previously been attacked. The vessel did not match the declared Houthi target profile.

UKMTO received a report of an incident on Monday 58 nautical mile west of Hodeidah, but provided no further details. They said that authorities were investigating. Reporting by Yomna Awadalla and Jana Choukeir. Editing by Kim Coghill. Tom Hogue, Gareth Jones.
