The traders said that Ukrainian wheat was the cheapest in Europe, but French wheat cost about the same price as Romanian or Bulgarian supplies. • Greece submits plans for maritime use following breach of EU rules

  After years of delays, the European Commission has rebuked Greece for submitting plans to the EU that outline how it will organize maritime activities like fishing, tourism and off-shore energy. In February, the EU Court of Justice found that Greece violated EU regulations for failing to submit a maritime spatial planning by March 2021. The European Commission referred Greece before the court for the delays. Plans maritime spatial define the areas where certain activities, such as fishing, sea transportation, tourism, aquaculture, and renewable energy projects, can be carried out. These plans are also a foundation for protecting marine ecosystems from threats like overfishing and pollution. The Greek government announced on Wednesday that it had submitted its plan to Brussels. Athens has blamed the delays on a variety of factors, including the long coastline, the numerous islands, and the geopolitical situation in the eastern Mediterranean. The map depicting the maritime spatial plan of China does not include any exclusive economic zones that are defined by bilateral agreements. Greece and Turkey, NATO allies in the past but enemies in the present, are exploring whether or not they can begin talks to demarcate maritime zones. The two countries have been at loggerheads over a number of decades-old disputes, ranging from the mineral rights in Aegean sea to a divided Cyprus. Greece has created an exclusive economic zone along with Italy and Egypt. Greenpeace, WWF and other environmental groups have repeatedly called on Greece to submit the spatial plans. When sourced from South America and Australia, wheat can be shipped one month earlier. Algeria is an important customer of wheat imported from the European Union and France in particular.   European traders reported on Wednesday that Algeria's state grain agency OAIC was believed to have bought durum wheat at an international auction on Tuesday. Estimates of the tonnage purchased were a bit vague, with a range. The volume was estimated to be between 300,000 and 450,000 metric tonnes. Other estimates were as low as 200,000 metric tons. The initial estimates for the purchase price ranged from $356 to $357 per ton, including freight. It was thought that the origin could be either from Canada, United States or Australia. The bidder requested shipment over four dates: May 1-15 and May 16-31. The tender sought shipment in four periods: May 1-15, 16-30 and 31-June. • Egypt's Sisi and Trump discuss regional mediation efforts in a phone call

  The Egyptian presidency announced on Tuesday that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi discussed with U.S. president Donald Trump mediation efforts to restore calm in the region, which would have positive impacts on Red Sea Navigation and stop economic losses for both parties. Since Israel's war against Hamas in late 2023 began, the Iran-aligned Houthis are said to have launched more than 100 maritime attacks. They claim they were doing so in solidarity with Gaza’s Palestinians. The attacks disrupted the global economy and sent the U.S. Military on a costly missile interception campaign. Trump had said on Tuesday morning that he discussed with Sisi progress against the Houthis. The White House is continuing its largest military offensive against the Yemeni group since March 15 under Trump's administration. Trump said that the strikes were in response to the Houthis' attacks on Red Sea Shipping. He warned Iran, which is the Houthis main supporter, to stop its support immediately. Messages Mistakenly shared One of the U.S. official quoted by The Atlantic in a chat with a journalist from The Atlantic magazine, who revealed U.S. plans to fight the Houthis in Yemen in March, said that Trump had approved the plans. The Egyptian statement did not mention the messages, or Washington's attacks against Houthis. Egypt has been affected by the Houthis attacks in the Red Sea region since November 2023. This forced ships to avoid the Suez Canal nearby and reroute their trade around Africa. Shipping costs increased. • Sonatrach reduces prices by 2-7%, Saudi Aramco maintains April LPG OSPs

  Saudi Aramco's official selling prices for LPG (liquefied petroleum gases) in April are unchanged from those of March. Sonatrach, however, has cut its OSPs between 2-7% because of a weaker Mediterranean demand, according to traders on Monday. Aramco’s April OSP was $615 per metric tonne. Butane costs $605 per ton , traders said. LPG comes in two types: propane and butane. They have different boiling points. LPG is primarily used as a fuel for heating and cars, as well as as a feedstock to make other petrochemicals. Sonatrach has cut its April OSP (Off-Season Price) for propane from $550 to $10 per ton Butane is $40-$545 per ton , traders said. Aramco’s OSPs serve as a guide for contracts to provide LPG from the Middle East into the Asia-Pacific Region. • Oman, Netherlands and Germany reach agreement on liquid hydrogen import corridor

  Tata Steel Nederland announced on Wednesday that major industrial groups from Oman and Germany, as well as the Netherlands, have signed an agreement to develop the first liquid hydrogen import corridor in the world. The group announced in a press release that the corridor would link the ports of Duqm, Oman, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and the key logistic hubs of Germany, including Duisburg. The aim is to allow the importation of liquid hydrogen that complies with RFNBO (renewable fuel of non-biological source) into Europe. Hans van den Berg is the CEO of Tata Steel Nederland. He said: "As a large buyer, we are able to contribute to a sustainable economy in our region based on green hydrogen." Eleven parties signed the agreement, including Oman’s global integrated energy company, Tata Steel Nederland and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik in Germany. The project includes infrastructure projects in several ports along the corridor. These include export and import facilities at the ports of Duqm and Amsterdam, and pipe and rail networks to transport liquid and gaseous hydrogen. • Jordan offers to purchase up to 120,000 tonnes of wheat, traders claim

  The state grain buyer of Jordan has announced an international tender for up to 120,000 tons of milling whey that can come from a variety or origins. European traders confirmed this on Wednesday. The deadline for submitting price offers is April 22, 2019. The traders had expected a new announcement after Jordan's previous tender of 120,000 tons wheat Tuesday, which Jordan bought 60,000 tons. The new tender seeks to ship a number of combinations between 50,000 and 60,000 tons in consignments from July 1-15, August 16-31, or September 1-15. Jordan purchased a total of 120,000 tons in August for shipment, traders reported. On Wednesday, a separate Jordanian tender for animal feed barley up to 120,000 tonnes closes. • UK maritime agency reports an incident east of Yemen’s Aden

  United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations announced on Tuesday it had received a report about an incident involving a vessel located 100 nautical miles east from Yemen's Aden. This was the first time the agency reported in this area for months. UKMTO reported that the vessel's crew was safe and was moving to its next port after it had been followed for two hours by multiple small vessels with shots fired. The agency stated that it was investigating this incident without naming any potential attackers or the vessel. Yemen's Iran aligned Houthis launched more than one hundred attacks against shipping in November 2023. They claimed to be in solidarity with Palestinians regarding Israel's conflict with Hamas. The group was responsible for a massive offensive during which it sank at least two ships, captured another, and killed four seafarers. This caused global shipping to be disrupted, forcing companies to change their routes. The Houthis have not yet commented on the latest attack reported to the UKMTO. After a ceasefire in Gaza between Hamas, Israel and the Houthis in January, they briefly halted their attacks. The Yemeni group, however, vowed in March to resume its attacks on Israeli ships as Israel refused to lift the blockade of aid entering the Palestinian enclave. The Yemeni group has also promised to continue its attacks on ships after the U.S. launched their biggest and most deadly military operation in Yemen, since U.S. president Donald Trump assumed office.

  In an international auction held on Tuesday, Jordan's state grain buyer purchased around 60,000 metric tonnes of hard milling Wheat to be sourced optionally. They said that it was estimated to have been purchased from Cargill for $263 per ton, including freight (c&f), with shipment scheduled to take place in the second half August. Traders have received information that Jordan will be issuing a new tender for 120,000 tonnes of wheat in the next few days. The deadline for submission of offers is April 22. Shipments will be requested in different combinations during the months of July and September. The following trading companies also participated in the tender on Tuesday, according to traders: CHS $265.95; Viterra $279.99; Ameropa $250; Buildcom $271.77; and Al Dahra $259.90.
