GM, Barclays sign long-lasting charge card collaboration arrangement

General Motors and Barclays said on Monday they have signed a longterm credit card collaboration contract to let consumers earn and redeem reward points on new Buicks, Cadillacs and other GM cars and trucks, including electric lorries.

Company-branded charge card can be a significant win for banks, as they capitalize on customer loyalty to the partner brand along with deals of attractive perks such as cashback and rewards.

The collaboration will assist broaden Barclays' credit card footprint in the U.S. The bank also has card relationships with other popular brand names such as American Airlines and Space .

As part of the agreement, Barclays will acquire the card program's receivables from the present provider next year.

Reuters had actually reported last month Goldman Sachs was nearing an offer to move its GM charge card organization to Barclays.

The GM charge card program will continue to be issued specifically under the Mastercard brand.

Barclays will be the unique company of the GM Rewards Mastercard and the GM Service Mastercard in the United States starting next summer.
