Sources: Volgograd oil refinery in Russia partially recovers from drone attack

Three industry sources said on Wednesday that the Volgograd oil refining plant in Russia, which had temporarily halted its operations after a drone attack by Ukraine on February 3, partially resumed its processing.

According to one source, the crude distillation unit CDU-5 was restarted on February 10 at the plant controlled by Lukoil, an oil major located in southern Russia.

The primary units are slowly returning to operation. The capacity is growing. Another source stated that more than half the capacity was actually operational.

Lukoil didn't respond to a comment request.

Another source reported that the refinery's throughput on Monday exceeded 20,000 metric tonnes, or 60% of January's average.

The Volgograd Refinery will process 13.7 million tons of oil in 2024, which is 5.1% of all the Russian refineries' total volume.

The country produced 1.9 millions tons of gasoline or 4.3% of Russia’s total. 6 million tonnes of diesel or 6.9% and 700,000 metric tons of fuel oil or 1.8%. Reporting by Guy Faulconbridge; editing by Tomaszjanowski and Guy Faulconbridge
