Difficult to see Chinese EV rate deal by end of October, says EU official

The European Commission has received minimum rate offers from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce covering numerous EV manufacturers and separately from a. number of specific exporters as part of settlements to avoid. EU tariffs, a senior EU official stated.

I won't exclude it, however it appears extremely, very tough to. reach an agreement by the end of October, because (of) ... the. very intricate, challenging problems to fix, the official said on. Monday, referring to the scheduled end of an EU anti-subsidy. investigation into EVs, when tariffs are to be imposed.

The EU has stated talks might extend beyond then, but the. official said the obstacle was powerful due to the fact that cost. undertakings, involving a minimum cost, to date had been for. homogenous products, rather than complex products such as. vehicles.

China on Saturday prompted the European Union not to carry out. separate negotiations over cost of Chinese-made EVs offered in the. EU, alerting this would shake the structures of bilateral. tariff negotiations.

The EU authorities said it would be highly unusual to focus. just on one price undertaking and not take a look at the others. Indeed, the Commission was obliged to consider all deals.
