CNBC reports that Holtec has signed an agreement with Hyundai for the construction of small nuclear reactors in Palisades.

CNBC reported Tuesday that Holtec International and Hyundai Engineering and construction have signed an agreement to build two small-modular reactors (SMRs), at the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan.

After decades of stagnation, the U.S. Nuclear Power Industry is experiencing a revival. This is due to a surge of electricity demand, and the massive energy needs of Big Tech's AI-based data centers.

Holtec, owner of Palisades Nuclear Plant, is seeking to reopen this facility that was shut down by a previous owner in 2022.

According to the report, the agreement will deploy a fleet consisting of 10 gigawatt SMRs. The first two units will be deployed at the Palisades facility.

CNBC noted that Holtec's design of the reactor is not licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
