Security firm reports that attackers fired on a ship flying the Comoros flag in the Red Sea near Yemen.

Ambrey, a British maritime security company, said that unidentified individuals in a wooden vessel fired at a livestock carrier flying the Comoros flag on Thursday near Yemen in the Red Sea.

Security firm warned vessels to keep a safe distance and not transit east of the Hanish Islands. These islands are 30 nautical miles northwest of Mocha on Yemen's Red Sea Coast.

Ambrey also reported that the vessel, traveling from Bosaso in Somalia to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, had received instructions to proceed towards Mocha. The instructions did not specify who gave them.

The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, have attacked vessels in the Red Sea since Israel's conflict in Gaza began in October 2023 against the Palestinian militant Hamas. They claim that they were acting in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel responded by launching an attack on the Houthis who control the majority of Yemen including the crucial port of Hodeidah.

The Houthis have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack on Thursday.
