Russia claims that Ukraine launched a drone attack against Tuapse and the broader Krasnodar Region.

Russian officials confirmed that Ukraine had launched a drone attack overnight on Russia's southern Krasnodar Region, damaging several homes, including in the Black Sea Port of Tuapse.

Three residential houses in the entire region were damaged, but no injuries were reported immediately, said Governor Veniamin Kodratyev, who posted a message on Telegram.

Sergei Boiko said that the fire in a house in Tuapse has been put out.

He also added that work on air defence systems continues.

The extent of the attack was not immediately apparent.

Russia's SHOT News Telegram channel reported on the fact that Ukrainian drones seemed to be aimed towards the port area, and that residents had heard 40 explosions that sounded similar to air defence systems.

The SHOT report could not be independently verified. Ukraine has not yet commented.

Since the beginning of the three-year war between Moscow and its smaller neighbor, Tuapse has housed the largest oil refinery in Russia on the Black Sea. Drones from Ukraine have targeted the facility several times.

Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation safety watchdog, announced on Telegram Tuesday that Sochi International Airport, located 150 km (93 mi) south of Tuapse and about 93 miles southeast, had been closed to all air traffic at 2247 GMT to ensure air security.
