Dutch reactionary leader condemns attacks on Israeli fans in call with Netanyahu

Dutch farright leader Geert Wilders expressed his anger and shame over attacks on Israeli soccer advocates in Amsterdam in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday.

The Israelis, advocates of the Maccabi Tel Aviv club who remained in the Dutch city for a match versus Ajax Amsterdam, had been assaulted over night by what its mayor called antisemitic hit-and-run squads. At least 5 people were dealt with in hospital.

Wilders, who heads the biggest celebration in the federal government, stated on X that in his call with Netanyahu (I) told him of my anger and embarassment of what happened in Amsterdam.

Earlier, Dutch news company ANP reported Wilders was to satisfy Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar and parliamentary speaker Amir Ohana at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Friday afternoon.

Reuters could not right away validate if that took place.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof also had a call with Netanyahu on Friday. Schoof had been participating in a summit of European Union leaders in Budapest when the occasions happened but he was due to leave the summit early and return to The Netherlands.
