After EU embargo, the main Russian diesel buyers are Brazil and Turkey

Data from market sources and the finance company LSEG revealed that Turkey and Brazil are the two main importers since the European Union banned imports of Russian oil products.

Before the full EU ban on Russian diesel went into effect in 2023, Europe had been the largest buyer of Russian Diesel.

According to LSEG data Russia exported about 1.07 millions metric tons (about 1.07 million liters) of low-sulphur gasoil and diesel to Turkey in September, after having shipped 1.04 million liters the previous month.

Shipping data shows that diesel exports to Brazil from Russian ports increased to 0.78 millions tons last month, compared to 0.58 million tons during August.

The volume of Russian diesel being transferred from ship to ship (STS), near the Italian port Augusta, and the Greek islands has increased. In September, the total was around 370,000 tonnes after the previous month's 230,000 tons.

The final destination of most of these cargoes is still unknown.

Diesel exports to African countries from Russian ports fell to 0.44 millions tons last month from 0.73million tons in August. According to shipping data, Libya, Tunisia and Senegal were among the top importers.

Calculations based on LSEG data and other market sources showed that the total amount of Russian diesel and gasoil exported by sea rose in September, up about 7%, from August, to 2.8 million tonnes. (Reporting by; Editing by Emelia Sithole Matarise)
