Nepal plane crash at Kathmandu airport kills 18

At least 18 individuals were eliminated when a local passenger aircraft coming from Nepal's. Saurya Airlines crashed and ignited while removing from. the capital Kathmandu on Wednesday, authorities said.

The aircraft, bring 2 team members and 17 technicians, was. opting for routine upkeep to Nepal's brand-new Pokhara airport,. which opened last January and is equipped with aircraft. upkeep garages, they stated.

Just the captain was rescued alive and is receiving. treatment at a health center, stated Tej Bahadur Poudyal, the. representative for Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport.

Tv visuals showed fireman attempting to put out. the blaze and thick black smoke increasing into the sky. They also. revealed the plane flying a little above the runway and then. tilting before it crashed.

Other visuals revealed rescue employees searching through the. charred remains of the aircraft, strewn in lavish green fields. Bodies were reached ambulances on stretchers as local. locals searched, the television revealed.

The airport was closed temporarily, officials said.

A Saurya Airlines official said the aircraft was a. 50-seater CRJ200 airplane.

According to Flight Radar 24 flight tracking, Saurya. presently runs two CRJ-200 regional jets, a program that. was owned by Canada's Bombardier however which was purchased by. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 2020.

Saurya says it has another CRJ200 in its fleet, however it. has not flown for a very long time.

Bombardier referred questions about the incident to. Canada-based MHI RJ Aviation Group (MHIRJ), which did not. immediately react to a request for comment.

Established in 2014, Saurya states on its site that it has. presented the jet experience on Nepal's domestic routes and. that it flies to 5 destinations.

Nepal has been criticised for a bad air safety record, and. nearly 350 people have died in plane or helicopter crashes in. the Himalayan country given that 2000.

The deadliest incident happened in 1992, when a Pakistan. International Airlines Airplane crashed into a hillside while. approaching Kathmandu, eliminating 167 individuals.

Most recently, at least 72 people were eliminated in a Yeti. airlines crash in January 2023 that was later attributed to the. pilots incorrectly cutting off power.
